12. im going to meet my ldr gf for the 1st time on feb 8th in ph………….except………i broke this news to my parents and their doing everything to prevent me from pursuing this….great timing….with the corona virus and all….plus (im american)……..there is a connecting flight in beijing………and the layover is only an hour…so im concerned about that as well….but everyone on the internet is saying it will be fine…but my overbearing, helicoptor parents……are doing everything to prevent this vacation from happening…..with it about 10ish days away….and it sucks………………

    4. Edgar Mirth: i’m in the same boat as you. I’ll be traveling from Las Vegas to Beijing on February 19. Will be in Beijing for an hour and 50 minutes. I guess the good thing news is the flight from Beijing to the Philippines will be empty since the Philippines is not allowing Chinese nationals to enter the Philippines.

       While in Beijing, I’ll be wearing an N 95 mask and sit away from the crowd.

    4. your information is wrong. americans have no such requirement for a visa before arrival. it has been thrown around that it ‘might’ apply to senators, but not usa-citizens.

       i just arrived in the PH 3-weeks ago, no pre-visa required. several of my american friends have arrived and, again, no pre-visa required. nothing has changed with americans entering the ph, still the same visa-waiver and 30-day tourist visa on arrival.

       you need to re-read whatever source you are referring to and understand it clearly. it did not say what you think it said.

    That is not even a 3% death rate.

    Last year the common flu infected 5 million people and killed 650 000 people around the world. Including 8200 in the US, and 3500 in Canada.

    The mass media is blowing this story way out of proportion and going into panic mode.

    Most of the people infected will recover just fine. If it was a disease that killed at least 30% of those infected then yes. But a disease that kills less than 3% of it’s victims.

    1. 2 confirmed cases. They traveled from china- hongkong – cebu – dumaguete – Manila. The 2nd confirmed case has already died.

Hope they will not have more cases there too and that it will be all finished by then I’m more scared about all the panic from authorities and closing down airports and the like than the idea of the virus that of course it is bad I know

    When I saw this video on the 28th I had already cancelled my flight to the Philippines for that day. My flight was from Amsterdam to Manila, with a transfer in Hong Kong. I had planned to meet my pinay penpal for the first time and stayed for 3 weeks.
    We were planning to do some island hopping, including Cebu on feb 3rd. I also cancelled my flight, because I anticipated (local) authorities may have to resort to policies and restrictions that I (or we) don’t want to have to deal with.
    Hope to visit the Philippines later this year!

54. Reekay what is the procedure if you want to stay longer than 30 days.

    1. buy a cheap ticket that leaves the PH (example; manila to hong kong) within 30-days and show that to immigration when you enter. (you do not have to actually fly this flight.)

       then.. extend your tourist-visa prior to the end of the 30-days.
