Poor Filipinos don’t have the option to move away from home. Consequently, you remain stuck with your clan on your ancestral land or compound living next door to brothers, sisters, inlaws, parents, grandparents etc.- literally in many cases within earshot of each other.
In other words, you’re in everyone’s business and they’re in yours. Gossip here is a product of the environment you live in. . The higher up the economic chain you place, the less these conditions occur.
Chismis is a important cultural aspect of Asian life…. As a westerner it pays to understand its perception and their viewpoint on Gossip… It can destroy a person’s standing in their Family and Barangay…
There is something called Sip Sip… Serverly in secured people Seeking instant Promotion.. Crab mentality…
Filipinos take it seriously and you can see how they try to make themselves look good in public.. To be admired and respected by how they dress, Wearing their best clothing even though there is no money in their pockets.. Wearing a larger than life smile in the face of everyday struggles.
Much of it is like a coping mechanism…
Its always a good idea never to shame them in public… Its much better to communicate in private on these matters…
Always best to be less spoken…. Humble… Positive oriented… the Quiet seem more wise…..
I know one thing , if you told them a secret the first thing they will do is tell everyone .
Just another reason to stay away from the Philippines: They can not take criticism, even when true.

Have recently been set up via texting, after loaning large amount of money to a Philipina. The accusations are Gossip with Intent to Defame. The lady then moved away, claiming she had been banned by her community. Hoping I am not screwed.
My feeling on gossip is that Asians are more social, emotional & maybe at the top jealous than some other cultures .
While I understand what you are saying however, it protects the criminals from having his/her evil actions known to the innocent. Hardly a fair system.
