Since 2012 I’ve been traveling through various islands of the Philippines as a full-time Expat and spent 1999 living in Vietnam.

Share with me my ongoing adventures of life in the Philippines. Hopefully you find my observations helpful in your own adventures.

  2. Most of the stuff I bring is for people down there. I keep my camera gear as carryon, I’m not trusting checking that, lol. You really dont need to bring much, Travel voltage converter, with a surge bar, some change of clothing, bathroom kit, medical kit. I can pick up clothes there, And I have alot of room in my luggage because I’m not coming back with all the stuff I bring for others there.

  3. If your plan is to slow travel then I agree. If on the other hand you are like me I plan to set up a base, probably Batangas due to the ferries based there as I will be exploring all that the Philippines has to offer. I am into fitness and health/ bodybuilding so I cook rather than eat out. I’m looking at buying a small vehicle and have always done my own mechanical work. There is no way that I would get rid of my quality tools, cook ware, clothes and personal items only to buy cheap knockoff rubbish in the Philippines when I can ship it over for approx $70usd/balikbayan box with a 6 week lead time. I have enough trouble buying shoes that fit in Australia as it is. Another issue is having my son send me the items such as protien powder, supplements and foods that are prohibitavly expensive in the Philippines. Having tried the canned foods such as tuna, never again, I would rather go hungry. Minimalist might sound good but it comes with it’s own set of challenges. If you want to travel around light then just store the items until you need them. Cheers Aussie John

  4. Perfect. May 2024 wheels down Philippines. Been practice packing with one carry on suitcase and a slightly oversize under seat laptop bag – what will fit easy on a scooter.. Been selling the expensive things, but a freeby at the end is an awesome idea. #Philippines2024

  5. Clothes for only one week? Good luck trying to find clothes your size in the Philippines! Since Americans are so much larger than the locals, it will be difficult to find clothes and shoes that fit you.

  6. I came to the Philippines about 2 years ago. I had 2 large suite cases of clothes. I am a big guy 44 inch waist. I was afraid that I would not be able to get clothes that fit. Well Amazon ships to the Philippines. 1 of the large suite cases is full of clothes that have never been used. I wish that I had left them in San Diego.

  7. So I’m wondering, does it make sense to bring tax returns and similar paperwork? Or is it acceptable to just make digitized copies of it and put it on a thumb drive?

  8. One exception to the minimal clothing idea might be for plus-sized guys. Finding comfortable underwear, shoes and socks might be a challenge. Good video! Merry Christmas!

  9. Hello from New York City! Please teach us how to make images using AI like the ones you make in your videos. Thank you for your informative videos.

  10. I wouldnt walk around by yourself with your cameras, drones etc as there is a good chance it will get snatched. Also dont wear any jewellery for the same reason and take 2 wallets one with just the daily money nothing else, incase you lose your original one and then you have lost everything! And leave the original wallet locked in your hotel bag not in the hotel room safe as the workers know how to get into them when you are not there.

  11. The most important thing to bring is common sense and be aware that most men there will try to scam you out of money

  12. I’ve been trying to be more minimalist by going through my posessions and getting rid of things or donating them. I’ve gone through the process 3 times over the past couple years and still have more to get rid of. For me, it hasn’t been an easy process, but I’m moving in the right direction.

  13. What to bring to the Phillippines? Money, money, and more money. That is really what you need in the Philippines.

  14. You said right at the end. Everything that you said can be applied to anyone moving abroad to any country.

  15. A lot of guys from the U.S. are bigger. So for example if you have bigger shoe sizes… Take all your footwear.

  16. Question Reekay….I have to use CPAP for sleep apnea. How do I know if it will work there in the PI?
