Author: Reekay V.

Since 2012 I’ve been traveling through various islands of the Philippines as a full-time Expat and spent 1999 living in Vietnam.

Share with me my ongoing adventures of life in the Philippines. Hopefully you find my observations helpful in your own adventures.

  2. New subscriber here, English is not my first language, but when you speak i understand perfectly.

  3. Reekay, Another excellent video. While I’m active in a couple charities (mostly thru my parish church), I don’t give people money to people who ask me for money. Period. Not even 100 php.

OTOH, I do have a habit a being “too nice” to pretty much everyone I meet. I learn names, and just tend to be nice to guys that strike me as arrogant and/or even a bit overbearing. I’m thinking I need to tone it down a bit before I move to SE Asia next year. Maybe just try to be a bit cooler (as in more distant towards strangers and new people I meet), lest I be considered an easy mark by other expats.

    What’s your thoughts on this?

  4. Train Wreck everywhere he goes. Some people are just financially unstable no matter what. Probably been like this all his life. Sad really, the moral of the story, just like it takes time to know your gal, also takes time to know anyone. Pick your friends carefully.

  5. I think i know who ur talking about….he had a small YouTube channel…
He ask me for money too..i helped him one time….he kept asking for more….i blocked him too….BJ…

  6. FacePalm. 239 Days Until Retirement… Another 75ish to wind stuff up so I can get on a plane. I already have a list of at least twelve places to spend two weeks or more checking out during the “Dry Season”, I’ll revisit the “winners” when it’s Very Wet… I’m living next to a Marine Temperate Rain Forest. I’m in possession of a couple of “Clues”. The idea of heading overseas without TWO STABLE sources of income is just alien to me.

  7. That’s pretty sad.
And and this could probably happen any place. I run into homeless people often here where I live. And I’m always trying to figure out if they are homeless because of their own bad choices or life has just dealt them a bad hand. I am sure that your videos help people keep up the good work.

  8. I have no tolerance for expats that go broke in the Philippines, and I consider myself to be a very generous guy. It is very rare to be in a situation that warrants my financial help. In 99% of the circumstances, it boils down to irresponsibility. I would rather provide help to countless Filipino’s that were born into their poverty.

  9. Your tale mirrored what happened in a situation with my expat friends in Thailand virtually verse for verse, so thank you for the reinforcement. With these jokers, Karma always exacts its vengeance. Peace

  10. Gee… I’ve never met you but in my 2nd message I could ask for money — ha ha ha…. Remember, when someone has no money they ALWAYS GET A NEW TATTOO.

  11. Expat Bob should come to California. The Socialist Government will pay him to be a bum and they’ll throw in free drugs and needles to inject them. He won’t even need a hard luck story.

  12. Some set the bad example & think they will reinvent themselves by moving across the world but there true character usually comes right back.

  13. Great vid.
I’ve lived in the UAE now for 18 years, I still meet them, funny how they hang around in bars here stealing drinks.

  14. Sad to be sure, and he was probably in the same situation in his home country. If he was looking for a sugar mama, he went to the wrong place…

  15. Wow, sorry to hear his story. Total lack of planning. We all have to think before we travel or you better make some income on the road.

  16. I really liked this video Reekay. I also like the way you narrate and tell a story. Bob is a lesson for us all.
