Author: Reekay V.

Since 2012 I’ve been traveling through various islands of the Philippines as a full-time Expat and spent 1999 living in Vietnam.

Share with me my ongoing adventures of life in the Philippines. Hopefully you find my observations helpful in your own adventures.

  2. 50ish years ago: My Grandmother [LPN] worked Weekend “knock shifts” in the Nursing Home her Aunt was Director of Nursing and a Part Owner of…. I’d go in with her & help out. Mostly Laundry & Lift Assists. I was only age 10-14 in those days, big for my age & it was a family-owned business. I remember how sweet & cute the Filipina Nurses were on that shift. They were Temps working their Hours so they could take the California Exams. California Recognized their Education, but not their Hours & Exams. Every Month a New Batch, all sweet & kind. Now, coming up on Retirement… Why not Expat? My Pensions will go much further overseas. Women in the US are DEFINITELY not as kind as when I grew up.

  3. I started my eye opening experience to Asia when i was just 20 years old guided by an old work mate. I saw the light so young and travelling there and back many times a year for like 8 years Philippines, Thailand, and Cambodia. In a way it kind of ruined my working life but i too also realized i didn’t want to be in those golden handcuffs and paying tax no more. I work a less paying job now by choice and my retirement goal is too live in Philippines as an expat with my current pinay live in partner. We both live in Australia were complete minimalist’s, frugal and just investing so one day we can leave we only need $900k AUD to do it as for todays current inflation. Thanks for reading me comment love everything that you do

  4. Life takes you down many paths, most not planned. Sometimes just go for it.Played at the round bar many times. Very interesting vlog.

  5. A great synopsis that pretty much summed up as to why i wanted to become a “part time” expat and maybe stay, but with the way the world is, especially now, i have to revalue, and take the advice you have given to consider a little more here. I want to retire and this narrative today will help me. Thank You! Peace

  6. Great story. I can definitely relate. Money is not the key to happiness. I spent the last 40 years in San Diego before I came here to retire. My original plan was La Paz but last minute I switched to the Philippines. Been here 2 years now.

  7. My goodness! I’m where you were! I work for the CDC and right now I’m older than everyone in my department including the Director of the CDC! I’m at the top of my pay grade so no more promotions to look forward to. Time to bail.

  8. Great story ! So part 2 will be about how you two broke up ?

I m looking at excel spreadsheet everyday, like prison wall. Can’t wait to get out!

  9. Thank you for taking the time to share this story. I’m about 10 years from retirement and your posts really motivate me to think about what I want in a post-divorce world.

  10. Now that’s a story! Living the dream in the Philippines. And getting paid by YouTube an American Company. Hmmmm

  11. The women on your channel are super beautiful. Are the women you show AI? Artificial Intelligence?

  12. I am making the move soon. Just tired of the direction the culture, society and government is taking here in the US. The majority no longer thinks like I do and that’s fine. It is what it is, but I’d like to go someplace more traditional … or at least warmer.

  13. What an excellent story! All or nothing! I was thinking why not ask the boss if you could work day shift and enjoy the sunsets? I need to keep watching to figure out what happened with this Filipina? When you describe her it puts a smile on my face thinking about my Filipina who I will be meeting in March.

  14. An interesting story, and I am glad it worked out for you, but you were batshit crazy to commit to that huge life change without even visiting once! You had never been on an overseas flight? So many people are disappointed when they visit some place they have dreamed about – the fantasy rarely matches the reality. You need (as a minimum) to walk around your prospective new location, check out housing, check out the restaurants, see what your life could be like.

  15. In a galaxy….far…far ..away, Life beyond the Sea was born.
It was a gutsy move that turned out well.

    Kudo’s!
