Since 2012 I’ve been traveling through various islands of the Philippines as a full-time Expat and spent 1999 living in Vietnam.

Share with me my ongoing adventures of life in the Philippines. Hopefully you find my observations helpful in your own adventures.

  2. I’m Korean American, adopted to the US when I was 9. Growing up in the Midwest in the 80s and 90s as an Asian guy was pretty crappy although I had great friends and family. I knew I wanted to leave the US when I was a teenager, it just took a while to work and save. The best option for a long term visa for me was South Korea but I don’t speak the language and the cost of living is high. Second best option was the Philippines. Just finishing my trial run of 5 cities in 6 months, will definitely settle here. I have very little interest in dating in the PH, it is still a great country for solo living.

  3. My reason for moving to the Philippines for retirement is primarily the cost of living. Reason number 2 is I have always been a beach person. Reason number 3 is the potential for a loving relationship with a younger Filipina. I already live in Washington state so there is no state income tax. The biggest negative for me moving to the Philippines is that I cannot own land and therefore I would be a renter which goes against my philosophy of always owning the homes I’ve had since I was 18.

  4. Hi Reekay,it’s great to see you bringing out your original format.great content.

  5. Many men I meet come because they want to meet and get engaged to their online LDR “girlfriends”. They are tired of dating in the West and often find themselves “invisible” to the women in the US. They believe that it’s easier to meet a traditional Filipina without knowing the dynamics of the dating game overseas.

  6. Always interesting lve lived in thailand a decade and l have saved a considerable amount by living here but if l lived in the philippines l think you pay a lot more for a hell of a lot less and really there is no comparison with the standard of living thailand wins hands down l have been too the philippines a couple of times but there is absolutely nothing there that would force me to move healthcare good living conditions visa is also much cheaper and easier in thailand and everything is much easier to navigate and speaking thai is a great advantage

  7. I remembered the simplicity in life as a child growing up in the 60’s in U.S. & really missed it as I aged. All the constant hypocrisy & rules/regulations can make things suffocating for some. In 6 yrs. here I’ve discovered how the Phils has much more freedom as well as love & happiness. The meaningless strife/competitiveness is absent & a traditional lifestyle is attainable if u seek it.

  8. The amazing natural beauty was what made me curious (since I was in school)to travel to the Philippines. I went there my first time in 2017 and fall in love with the country. The nature and the low pace live style in most of the islands pleased me so much that now i return every year. Find a girl which I maintain a long distance relationship and I plan to retire in a couple of years. Bohol is my safe haven, every time I get there I feel like home.

  9. I have always been attractive to Asian women also everything I have seen and heard reminds me more of my childhood and simpler life then they ever day Rat Race in the US no matter if you are retired or not it’s constantly something over here

  10. 11:50 Why would I move to the Philippines? I would say the women; you just can’t find the same type of women in the West.

  11. I have a loving partner in the Philippines, i have less to no stress in the Pilippines, i have a Daughter in the Philippines, and 4 very nice older than children Step Daughters in the Philippines. Also with my SRRV visa i can come and go at will and remain without hassle to tourist visa. I have my social securiy and my daughters deposited directly to PNB in Manila in Pesos already, so no stress with limits and hassle of exchange rates. When i need money i just go get it. And my backup system is my military pension VA pension and my FERS government pension being deposited in my Navy Federal Credit Union account in the states and my address of my daughters address in the states, so really i have it made. All in all i have access to about $4,000 US in 5 different pensions

  12. I use Excel sheet to keep up with my budget ever since I got my first computer with Office and before that I had a notebook to keep it updated. It’s a habit that goes very naturally to me.

  13. I was homeless in san diego california living on less than $ 1k pre month then found I could have a home in mexico on the same money but it has gotten more expensive so I came Philippines now with inflation it cost me $ 1400 per month here bohol I live in Philippines beacaus I’m poor and was not successful in the USA making only around $ 10 per hour as a labor working construction sites then I got injured and went on SSI disability payments FREEDOM !!! Mooching on the government untell they cut me off but thats another story
