Does this work with Bank of America? I didn’t set this up last time I was in the Philippines and it was complete hell having to message a relative to get my authenticator code anytime I wanted to log into my bank account.
I use magic jack and Google voice as a backup.
Great info once again bro! Thank u very much!
One cannot get codes via SMS or voice call using paid Skype from some financial institutions because of something called ‘short codes’. Those institutions do not use the authenticator. I am still trying to figure out what I should use. Does Google Voice ALWAYS receive SMS or voice call? The good thing about paid Skype is that toll free calls to USA are free. One can do phone banking as an alternative.
I just bring my main phone with a T Mobile account. I can use it in the Philippines just like I use it back in the states for all accounts. And I thought I would need a separate phone with a Philippine SIM card, but I get around this by using Facebook messenger for texting locals here. Works for me.
I’ve lived overseas for over 12 years now. But it’s only recently that some banks are no longer sending the one-time code to my email. I tried updating my phone # online to an international one but it doesn’t accept it.
So I called Bank of America, told them I’m going to be outside the US for some time & requested them to input my overseas # into their system. It worked!
I also get my credit cards delivered overseas when they are renewed (they usually send it by DHL).
Great info Henry, thanks
