Since 2012 I’ve been traveling through various islands of the Philippines as a full-time Expat and spent 1999 living in Vietnam.

  3. What is an example of an Unknown Pre Existing condition? A year old tumor?

  4. Part of the problem here in the Philippines about driving. Philippine people almost always use the left side to pass, even if there is no traffic in the right lane

  5. Great question about excluded conditions, Reekay. Unfortunately, it wasn’t answered well. What the hell is an “unknown preexisting condition”? This type of insurance sales-speak drives me nuts. Is an “unknown preexisting condition” anything that isn’t an accident or viral or bacterial related? -OR- Are there more specific examples like the cataract example?

  6. thanks for this post! I’m coming to Naval, Biliran around March/April and only have Tri-Care For Life and Medicare, I’m getting coverage with Michael thanks to you Buddy! I’m Retired US Army!

  7. Enrique, by chance do you have contact information to Orville’s family in Jamaica? I would like to write a letter of condolence to them. Thank you

  8. What’s that about Thailand needing 30 day insurance? ?
I heard you don’t need insurance going over there on a tourist visa. Please try to clarify I’m actually leaving in six hours from the Philippines to Thailand.

  9. Always an important and popular topic for expats. Recommend future health insurance updates include, if possible, reps from hospitals (patient services reps/asst) who maybe can share their experiences with foreigners receiving care. Thanks!

  10. They stuck my butt in a ward for 30 days when I broke my hip and had Ne call anyone in the US that ever shook my hand to get the money to pay for it, I like an idiot just assumed that my insurance worked here. Surprise. All they did was give me over the counter pain relievers and run up the hospital bill. The hospitals are better here in Davao than the one I was in in Bohol. I have just ben an outpatient here.

  11. Pacific Cross has an office in every major city in the Philippines. I personally haven’t walked into one of their offices but if Pacific Cross has a walk in office in every major city of the Philippines and you can deal with them directly what advantage is there to signing on through Mr. Onstad.

I plan to visit Pacific Cross in one of their offices when I return to PH.

Another popular medical insurance company in the Philippines is MAXICARE and until I personally investigate Maxicare I have no idea how they compare with Pacific Cross.

  12. If you’re in your late 50s or older, don’t care in how good a shape you’re in, your body has wear and tear that will likely require treatment at some point. Either make sure you have the cash, or get a health insurance policy!
