Since 2012 I’ve been traveling through various islands of the Philippines as a full-time Expat and spent 1999 living in Vietnam.

Share with me my ongoing adventures of life in the Philippines. Hopefully you find my observations helpful in your own adventures.

  1. By compounding unresolved issues you start to forget the resolutions. Tampo behavior is unproductive, destructive and if allowed, it will be assumed that the behavior is accepted.

  2. You know Henry, I was listening to Pea the other day talking about Tampo from the Filipina’s perspective, and it may not be such a bad idea, with some adjustment, after all. She said that Filipinas use Tampo to avoid confrontation. Those first few minutes of a knock down drag out are usually filled with emotional nasties designed to push buttons and hurt the other, from both sides. So, we use Tampo to have both boxers go their own corner and cool off. Then, after an hour or two, one or both sides can ask “ready to sit down and discuss this like grown adults?” If you set this up with your partner in advance, you can get those evil, nasty invictives that neither side usually really means or thinks out of the process and concentrate on resolving the issue.
