Are people so focused on a mask which doesn't work that they forget the PRIMARY transmission methods? Do they even know them? Did they learn nothing from Hong Kong in 2002 with SARS-COV-1? For example in one complex man had diarrheas. Thanks to leaky pipes, dry drain traps, bathroom ventilator fans it spread infecting 300 people and killing 35. SARS-COV-1 (89% the same as SARS-COV-2) attached to pollution particles or floats by itself so walking over a sewer grate is one method of transmission and WHY in Wuhan thy flooded the sewers with chlorine (especially outside large buildings and airports). ... 80% of Doctors in the US are rejecting taking the depop-shots (experimental medical DEVICE) and about 50% of nurses (in some places it’s 80% overall refusing). Example, everyone whom died during the Spanish Flu (which was American and not the flu) died from an experimental serum (vax) started out of Fort Riley (involved Rocker_feller Labs). The Doctor was Dr. Freder_ick L. G_ates. 100-million were killed, about, 500-million in today much more populated world. That was an early eugenics project, IMO.

step one we have to change the conversation from letting foreigners into the Philippines to what is the daily starvation count. The conversation must be turned to everyday they lock down less foreigners will come to the Philippines and that will be permanent not temporary that is the conversation we have to turn this into what day they decide to let us in is becoming irrelevant because even when they let foreigners in who wants to be told what to do every step of the way That’s not freedom and most people from anywhere in the world are not going to want to spend their hard-earned money being in a vacation spot where you’re being controlled.

I was a frequent visitor to the Philippines in the past, but since Mr. Duarte has been in power I am very sceptical that it will ever return to anything like normal or at least normal for the Philippines. He seems to think that everyone who enjoyed visiting the Philippines in the past is just sitting at home waiting for his personal blessing to hop on a plane and return to carry on just like it used to be. I got news for ya Duarte, it aint so! I also as an American dont appreciate his if I snap my fingers the US will bow down to me and bless the Philippines with oodles of cash just for the privilege of keeping it free from Chinese occupation of its various sand bars and reefs. I personally dont care what the Chinese do to humiliate Mr. Duarte, but they will come up with something appropriate I am sure. Then he will blow his little tin horn and expect the Americanos to come to his rescue. There are places just as nice and closer to home for American that have been open to Americans in spite of the pandemic, Mexico for one, and I plan to stay around here. Maybe if the Philippines elects a more hospitable leader in the future, one who doesnt enjoy killing and jailing everybody he doesnt like, I might consider going back, but dont hold your breath. The Philippines will just have to learn to live without my tourist dollars.

Ramos was in power, terminal 2,3,4 were not yet built and about 1/2 the current population had not yet been born (no, I was never in the military).

Another consideration was the way complete lack of leadership and planning for the lockdown. PAL not given refunds (just promises) didn’t help but the main issue was absolutely no aid in getting people back to their home nations. They just left them stranded there for months, some still are.

Example, I still have a elderly extended family member stuck in the Philippines, a YEAR LATER. Many family members ended up WALKING to Manila airport as they cut taxis and buses. Walking to Manila airport in the heat – some elderly some with young children or infants. Then when they get there no one knows what going on, then flights cancelled. Rinse and repeat.

I was heading there to visit my s-i-l. She had to go to get her FIRST dialysis treatment. They wouldn’t let her out of Manila after 6-hospitals in her area refused patients. They had clinics outside (provinces) but Manila shut down without warning. She did get in to one finally, they said a 2-days for dialysis, they wouldn’t let any family in. She died in a hallway a week later. She was months away from celebrating her 50th anniversary. So now you know what the Philippines does to their elderly, essentially murders them.

So Ontario went into another lockdown (.. and the ‘temporary’ lockdown from March 16/20 never, ended yet 7-months ago!!!, that’s a long 14-days!) with not even enough alleged ‘Covid’ patients for 55% of the hospitals, and of those in ICU, enough for 1 patient for 7.8% of the hospitals in the province. Most of those in hospital had pre-existing conditions.

My bet is the Philippines will be permitting “vaccinated” foreigners into their country sooner rather than later. Afterall, studies are profoundly demonstrating that the chance of getting or transmitting Covid post-vaccination is pretty much infintesimal. Thus, vaccinated foreigners would pose essentially zero threat to the populous and would create much-needed “money velocity” within the Philippine economy to abate and arrest this awful plague of hunger and starvation.

I received a email from the American Embassy. It stated that they have no plans for the vaccine for Americans in the Philippines !! If you want the vaccine you will have to accept it here are travel back home to receive it.

Pretty funny. We hear the same logic here in the US. If you lock down the hospitals are empty. Open up and hospitals start to fill and lock down again. In the Philippines you have a lot of smokers which covid can put into the hospitals. Here in the US we were able to barely hang on and developed treatments to reduce deaths which I suspect will not be available in the Philippines. This means hospital staff will be sick so even less help. With hospitals full, staff sick, there will be little help for people with non-covid illness. Kidney dialysis centers had a problems here. People hurt in traffic accidents slow to get help.
People also think opening up will like magic, back to normal. But as we saw in Sweden, which had no lock down, their economy suffered almost as much as neighbor countries with lock down. The rub is people really don’t like risking their lives so they locked themselves down. The virus is the problem, but people blame lock downs…silly.
Limiting capacity in businesses caused even more businesses because they were open but now spending money but no hope to breakeven.
People focus on the death rate and feel OK with 2% death rate. But we have had a lot of what is called the “long haulers” who stay sick for months. Some people don’t die but need lung transplants. When that is combined with deaths you’re more in the 10% range.
As for expats….age and obese are high risk factors. Sound like a expat profile?
I get business is suffering. If Philippines unlocks the virus will spread, probably the newer types. Business will continue to suffer but you’ll add suffering from sickness and death. Yup, it’s pretty horrible. I say this because if I was an older expat there, I’d do what I did here in the US…dig a hole and crawl in. Don’t go near anyone for any reason. I had an N-95 respirator when this started for woodworking which I wore when stocking up on food.
I don’t know how you all deal with lots of corpses. We used refrigerated trucks. Have a lot of those? Brazil did mass graves.

the recent change to MGCQ across the PH still allows for specific barangays with high numbers of cases to do “localized (target) lockdowns”. but not the entire city, just a localized area with high numbers of cases.

Thailand a 7 day average of 62 cases, as of 10 Mar 39 new cases, which shows they are doing something right. Plus the second wave came from people illegally enter the country from Burma.
Now, tourists in small numbers have started filtering back in. Businesses that sustained both waves are opening, and the streets are getting busier.
Since the Philippines has a 7 day average of 3012 cases, as of 10 Mar 2880 new cases, something needs to happen.
I agree that there is no need for a lockdown, but there is a need to stop the movement. As long as people can travel Province to Province, Covid is not going away.

@travelerwithstyle Testing PRC can be risky? Ok, front liners are getting infected at the hospitals. Why? Procedures and carelessness. Swamp with people will always be dangerous. It comes with the job of being in the medical field. Reekay, as a frequent visitor to the Philippines from my home in Israel over the past 8 years, I am dubious about the data given by a dictatorial, corrupt government. I love the Philippines and its people. However, I pose the question: Are the figures on those affected by the pandemic realistic? Of 108 million population that has not vaccinated 99% of it’s population, how many really are infected? Alternately I ask – are the low numbers of the sick, of the vacant percentage of hospital beds etc a result either of data ignorance/misrepresentation or due to the dispersal of the national population across more than 7,000 islands? Like here in Israel we all want to get our economies back on its feet.
i’d say without insider data, we can only speculate. but on a more practical level, changes in policy are what we will have to work with in the interim.
Hopefully not too late this year, I heard july, but lets see, want to spend 8 weeks vacation to explore many places there 😀

hello reekay from Manhattan nyc. hurry up and open up the Phillipines for us foreigners. I know the Phillipines is taking big hit from no tourists. I’m ready to come visit my lady. I already received my first dose of Moderna vaccine, just waiting on my last dose.

@Chris Bangkok We humans have what we call an immunization system that protects healthy people from viruses. The mandate to be vaccinated is also BS and I’ll not let anyone stick that crap into my system. A true vaccine from Johnson and Johnson maybe doable, but not Maderna or Pfizer.

yes, the suffering people of the PH have gone through, i believe, has not been accurately reported. it’s more than losing income.. it is stress, depression, suicide, marital problems, hungry kids and so much more. 🙁

Solution to boosting the economy? Open up for international tourists, the numbers will be nothing more than a trickle for many months and will remain in small numbers for at least a year. We’ve seen this with Thailand who expected big numbers of international tourists which of course did not materialize unless one believes 59 visitors to be a windfall.
Then why in the heck are we still under GCQ in Davao city. City Gate Mall looks like a ghost town with 70% of the stores closed.
Things are getting worse here not better…Cases are rising…Metro Manila cities are under curfew…No tourists will be allowed until at least October…I live in Manila.
My thought is that Duterte wants to PROTECT Davao City from foreign invasion when he starts to open the Philippines for international tourists. He wants to also PROTECT his daughter, the Mayor of Davao and to PREVENT an epidemic of Covid from multiplying there.
because some political leaders who don’t have much of a political profile try to get one by being extra hard and dictatorical during Corona “Pandemic” Same here in Germany.

Maybe you’ll see. It is a risk. Many people here in the US (40% or so) think covid vs lockdown. But that’s always been silly as Sweden showed. Sweden with no lockdown has only done a little better in their economy. The problem is when covid cases start to explode in a country old fat tourists don’t want to go there.
Maybe after the old fat tourists have been vaccinated for awhile they will travel.
We’ll see.
For sure if it spreads there like here in the US it’s not going to be pretty.
@Joseph Drawbond ,.,. If you knew that Thailand had 40 Million tourists in 2019 compare to The Philippines 7 Million tourists in the same year. You just can’t beat it even you open it earlier.
I would like to see that happen too, but the Filipinos are not disciple enough to shut down the spread of Covid.
In fact, tourists in small numbers have started filtering back into Thailand. Businesses that sustained both waves are opening, and the streets are getting busier.
As long as there is a movement within the Provinces and country, it will not come to a halt. Thailand shut down movement within its Provinces. It worked!
There is only one way to shut Covid down, and that shut down movement until there are no cases.
