They sure as hell better not decrease benefits… without somehow compensating for it elsewhere. For example… cut SS benefits by 20% but then exempt all SS earnings from personal income tax. I know the Feds won’t like that… but likely they also don’t want another insurrection on their hands… this one ongoing.
Look at the violent demonstrations that happened in France recently when they tried to increase retirement age from 62 to 64. You can’t move goalposts on people, especially as the ends of their lives approach and they have no other way to generate income. People tend to fight when they are backed into a corner and their livelihood is threatened.
