Since 2012 I’ve been traveling through various islands of the Philippines as a full-time Expat and spent 1999 living in Vietnam.

Share with me my ongoing adventures of life in the Philippines. Hopefully you find my observations helpful in your own adventures.

  1. Reekay, went to the facebook page. There is not an option to message Michael, only join the group

  2. For future reference the pesos policy is good to know that you can use it to travel abroad for 30 days.

But as you said looking at the finer print before you decide on how much your covered and how much you have to pay out in the unforeseen circumstances of an accident.

  3. Any connection between PacificCross and BlueCross? I have a BlueCross federal plan. Any thoughts about this plan/coverage?

  4. The cabinet also removed the requirement to present a PCR test upon exiting the country.

  5. Israel’s coronavirus cabinet has decided to abolish its so-called green passport program for most places of entertainment, including hotels, restaurants, gyms and movie theaters. This effectively removes barriers to entry for the unvaccinated.

  6. I’m 69 and, even when I am outside the USA for 6 months (agent said, “how will they really know how long you’ve been outside of the country?”) my AARP Medicare Advantage plan, with United Healthcare, will cover me for emergency medical situations outside the US. I have to pay for the local service, but will be reimbursed for the costs by my insurer, United Health Care. Anything major or chronic that comes up, I would go back to the USA. For small medical issues that come up, I’ll just pay out of pocket here, as most medical things are relatively inexpensive in the Philippines. I may opt to get Philhealth too, if I deem it advantageous.

  7. I’m retired U.S. military and my medical insurance is “Tricare for Life” … If I travel overseas, I have to pay up front for medical care, then fill out paperwork and send to “Tricare for Life” for reimbursement – 70 to 75% coverage. WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE TALK ABOUT THIS!!! I believe this process/procedure is similar to “Blue Cross Blue Shield.”

  8. If Reekay mentioning that he’s paying 650 USD a month for health insurance in America doesn’t motivate a retiree to strongly consider getting away from there, I don’t know what will. That is sad!

  9. Good video. What I am curious about is the term “pre-existing conditions”. I’m thinking what happens in this situation: YEAR 1: You have Pacific Cross insurance, you are living in the philippines, you have an unexpected major heart attack, Pacific Cross takes care of the cost. YEAR 2: Time to renew with Pacific Cross for another year. Will they say “Sure, you can renew but because of the major cost we covered in year one, your premium will now be a much higher cost plus we won’t cover anything with your heart as it is now a pre-existing condition”. You then find in year 2, no health insurance company will cover your heart, due to what happened in year 1. I hope to contact someone and get an answer about that.

  10. Great source of info Henry! Those planning to move to the Philippines should consider Michael’s medical insurance plan!

  11. Back in 2015 I lived in PHL and helped Vets with TriCare and connected them with Physicians that accepted TriCare. Keep in mind that the Philippines is the opposite of USA. Physicians bill at the day of the visit and DO NOT bill the insurance company or send the patient a bill after the visit. Some of them do, of course in the bigger cities and big hospitals, they have more modern administrative and billing services but in the Provinces that’s not the case.

  12. Can you give us a estimated ballpark prices of the top 10 things elderly expats pay for procedures. (heart bi pass, appendix, broken leg and what ever the most common injuries or aliments please.

  13. Thank you so much Reekay. I’m reviewing health insurance right now, so I’ll be sure to contact Michael Onstad, in addition to my internet research. Your video made some ambiguous things very clear.

  14. The best and most informative insurance program I have ever seen by anyone on YouTube in the Philippines. I have been watching you for years and you always have good information. Do you know what town this insurance guy is located? I don’t comment a lot but I had to comment about this. Thanks again for another great video.

  15. Good subject to cover. Lots of good stuff here. From what I hear most plans have coverage up to the age of 70, then what?

  16. Sounds like my trip to Palawan. I got food poisen and went to a public hospital and it cost me $20 usd.

  17. Pacific Cross also operate in Thailand as a Thai registered insurance Co. and have their local plan. So I guess you have to choose were you want to reside most of the year.

  18. Have a question unrelated to the topic. Can I fly into the Philippines with a throw a away ticket and not round trip?

  19. Let’s say you’re 50 years old and you get the pacific cross does it stay the same price as you get older as long as you keep the contract paying yearly with them or does it go up as you get older. Basically I’m saying can you lock in a price if you start a younger age with Pacific ?

  20. Lots of useful information. Like what you’re saying, the stray dog or the crab can be very dangerous. Or a big cow crossing the street. LOL
