Since 2012 I’ve been traveling through various islands of the Philippines as a full-time Expat and spent 1999 living in Vietnam.

Share with me my ongoing adventures of life in the Philippines. Hopefully you find my observations helpful in your own adventures.

  2. Legit Mexican food outside of the US or Mexico is a reason to celebrate! What is your favorite Mexican restaurant in Southern California as a frame of reference?

    1. @Reekay’s LifeBeyondTheSea That’s actually one of my favorites too! I love their shrimp cocktail although they’ve raised their prices (it’s like 14 dollars) since CV. There is a new fish taco place/chain in the IE called La Bufadora in Murrieta and Perris (I go there at least once a week). You definitely should try it when you have you come back to the US. There is no better Mexican food than in Southern California, seriously we are very spoiled here.

    2. there are lots of great places in SoCal, but the one that i love most is a place in Perris, Calif called, ‘Casa Jimenez’ at 4th street. family owned and authentic mexican food for over 20 years. worth the drive if a person is near the area. my mom and i always eat there when i’m in town.

they don’t just make the usual menu. it’s all the items.. the horchata and jamaica drinks, the original shrimp/seafood cocktails, menudo.. all the good stuff.

    1. The chimichanga test is a perfect metric by which to judge the overall quality of a mexican place.

  3. In the Philippines, my test of good Mexican food is the quality of their tortillas. Granted it’s hard to have corn tortillas made but flour tortillas are easy enough to prepare. One of these days, when they open up the borders again, I will bring 20 pounds of Masa and dried chili rojo…we can have a tamale Fest. Both of you, take care.

  4. Hi Reekay ! You both seem to be happy and relaxed together… enjoy and have a great time with Vi ! forget about those loser trolls out there who are just jealous and miserable souls ! F**k em !

  5. Nicely done video. Enjoyed the food review and the scenery. I think I will come over next week. Or maybe next year. Stay safe.

  6. Not everyone is into the mask thing but I’m surprised they don’t make you cover your nose too while wearing it.

  7. Hello Henry and Vi and glad you both are enjoying an adventure together on that terrific island! Looks like a small paradise but I would really like to see the beach area. Merry Christmas!

  8. The food looked great Reekay, that’s a new one to try for me. I did see that restaurant, but never ate there. Is the Stumble Inn still open in town ? It’s nice to see some life there, you’ve made me want to go back, I’m glad you can finally do some travelling again. Have a great time and Merry Christmas to you and Vi.

  9. What’s the deal with traveling from province to province nowadays? Do you need a travel permit and health check?

  10. I wish I could perfect the “beam me up, Scotty” technology and send myself there.

  11. Looks like the Philippines is handling Corona better than the US. At least you can eat at a restaurant where you are! Thanks for sharing your experience with us who are living in the land of restrictions. J

  12. Henry I remember you taking us to a Mexican restaurant I believe it was in Dumaguete. With two beautiful Mexican women working there. One was married to the owner but the food was fantastic looking. You have taken this to quite a few good restaurants

  13. Nice walk around and many places to eat . The food Court has a varity. Happy you both could get away from cebu city for a vacation. Life is more simple on Bantayan . thank you for sharing, enjoy have fun and remain safe.

  14. Did they have green chili? That how I grade Mexican restaurants. I grew up in south Texas.

  15. I miss good Mexican food off the taco trucks. I moved out of California and to Texas and the Mexican is just not the same. To me, California Mexican is far better than TexMex.

    1. @Reekay’s LifeBeyondTheSea funny the California Mexican tacos was mentioned. I have had mexican tacos all over california. I have also had then in various cities throughout Mexico. Best place in California was in San Diego, but over all, the number one place was Mexicali Baja. I moved to Yuma, so I will have to make road trips to Mex now

    2. all over SoCal.. so many good taco-shops. and the mexican food-trucks at the garment-district in LA.. so good!
