Author: Reekay V.

Since 2012 I’ve been traveling through various islands of the Philippines as a full-time Expat and spent 1999 living in Vietnam.

Share with me my ongoing adventures of life in the Philippines. Hopefully you find my observations helpful in your own adventures.

  2. Reekay your comments/thoughts are spot on – self sufficiency has always been the best solution to the crazy world we live in. Enough land to grow fruit/vegies/chooks (and maybe pigs) and a roof over your head – I have some friends doing exactly this in Thailand and I believe that most South Asian countries are a good choice for this type of lifestyle as they do not seem to be caught up in the “total control of everything including rainwater” that many weastern societies seem to think is “normal”. God bless.

  3. I listened to Tim K rant and his rational for getting US citizenship for Dale and the potential for fall out from the War in Ukraine. The possibility is there that food insecurity could happen on a world scale. Can Krissy find food if it comes to that? There may be a lot of Filipinos who will be using those skills, if push comes to shove. So, Tim thinking about this, and planning about this, seems like a rational thing to consider. Having a plan and executing a plan are different things. But without the plan, execution becomes a gamble. I agree with having a protocol(plan) to follow.

  4. I believe China will invade Taiwan. I also believe shipping lanes will be shut down adversely affecting food imports to the Philippines. This one is big. It isn’t about odd and even license plates. It is about China versus USA and who is top dog in the world. That said, in event of nuclear war I’d rather be in Dumaguete, Philippines than any major American city such as New York or Los Angeles.

  5. yes i have just come back from a month in the PH , and my fiancee owns her own house . but she feels like her house is a burden and she gets taken advantage of when she highers help . im doing the paper work for the fiancee visa and hoping i can get her over here soon enough before we both lose hope . she wants to move here and i want to move there lol. we just both need to see eye to eye . im not sure what the best option is , but i just want us to be together in the end .

  6. This expat is staying, I just got here a month ago. I have been living here off and on since 1998, trying to make this one stick this time around. Hopefully going to start to mess with YouTube when I get time for fun.

  7. The last era without a crisis was between 1990 and 2001. And even then NATO bombed Yugoslavia. The Hutu and Tursi murdered each other in Rwanda. The US went to war with Iraq. Japan’s economy spiraled into chaos. I would make the argument that the return to a multipolar world with China and Russia emerging as powerhouses makes things more unsafe since both can – like the US – reorder certain regions of the globe if they choose to. However, I would strongly encourage anyone to ignore most of the news. It’s a sensationalist industry. The rise of social media only contributed to that. I say live now or never. As normal citizens there’s not much we can do if the US believes it can take on Iran, China thinks it can do the same with Taiwan or Russia invading Ukraine. Be frugal, save money and DO NOT give up on your dreams.

  8. I can tell you that the USA is not what it used to be , the Phils is still a viable option if like you said .. “ you have your ducks in a row ..and I Love your logical , positive outlook on this issue
