Author: Reekay V.

Since 2012 I’ve been traveling through various islands of the Philippines as a full-time Expat and spent 1999 living in Vietnam.

Share with me my ongoing adventures of life in the Philippines. Hopefully you find my observations helpful in your own adventures.

  1. Be safe everyone. Please wear mask and eye protection when you go out if possible and please protect the elderly

  2. I am more of the line of thinking that this lockdown will cause more hardship than the virus itself. How do they expect people that live day to day to feed their families without the ability to go out to work? As time goes by I believe my mild concern as to the virus will be replaced more with concern about those people without the ability to live normally. Stay safe everyone.

    1. @Brendan Doherty While my concern was for those with little not having enough my concern was also with what people without will do in times of need to feed their families. We know in this country when things are good life can be sold very cheaply just to settle a score. That does not bode well for when those same people become desperate from a lack of basic essentials.

    2. When people are not getting paid and no money to buy food , see what happens … desperation begets violence ..and people will do anything to survive…

    3. Certainly I share your concern HSB regarding the plight of the many poorer folk here in the Philippines, the Government really does need to step up with help, just for those who need it….I have no clue how they can accomplish such a task, hopefully they’re smarter than me, not hard admittedly !!!
Maybe you’re younger than me, but my virus concern is a little more than mild I must admit, I don’t have a tremendous amount of faith in the local healthcare at the best of times, but apart from my personal anxiety for myself, an uncontrolled outbreak would rip through this country I now call home, and be done, in 3 or 4 months, with the high prevalence of smoking and poor diet of so many……it wouldn’t be pretty!!!

    4. My feeling exactly. Unless you are elderly or have some already existing condition, even if you get it you will get well in a few days. All these decisions are being made by politicians who are still getting paid.

Life is a risk no matter what. Just disallow all plane travel in and out for a month.

  3. Thanks for the latest info. My Visa is due the first week of April. Ne, said that the BI was closed the other day here in Davao will they be requiring me to renew my Visa. Do U or any of your viewers have that information? Ron

    1. You might wanna follow Bureau of Immigration on FB, they have the latest infos there.

  4. I’m glad I stayed here in Vietnam rather than come back to the Philippines. Plenty of food, masks, sanitizer, and movement. Just don’t get the virus.

    1. lol. I’ve been thinking the same thing! I was planning to go to the Philippines but for reasons unrelated to the virus, I decided to come to Vietnam first. So glad I did now that I see what’s happening everywhere else!

  5. Is there any way my girlfriend and I can get to her town in Aurora Mindanao, and I was able to get a 30 day extension on my visa here in boracay with no problem took about less than 2hrs.

  6. sun star Cebu posted a video of a governor major meeting and from what I gather cebu is going into total lockdown

    1. it won’t Destroy the world economy it will destabilize it and the destabilization will be in a big way and the countries of Europe UK America Canada China Russia and Japan all those Economys they will recover a lot quicker and if China are being true in what they state when saying they are now clear of the virus there economy will recover quickest and they will have a slite head start as the rest of the world has not got to grips with it yet

    2. some say 12~18 months

this will kill the world economy and many people will die from the consequences of panic

  7. Areas just outside of Manila also very locked down. Tomorrow in the Luzon area they will have a free food give away. You can’t even send money by Western Union because they shut it all down. The police have stopped farmers from going to their fields and they can’t hire the help to harvest crops.

    1. mayhem over common sense…

PH was doing ok against covid with 90% people wearing masks in Feb… now many will lose jobs and starve.

  8. I agree that we will need more then 3 weeks of isolation, we could just be kicking the can down the road, losing any headway that was achieved with this lockdown.

  9. of course extend many not tested all big metro areas enhancement if it last months in many country it will last as long in any.place hot or cold Philippines been advising foreigners to leave as medical capacity is not able to withstand surge in numbers april 16 flights resume not easy to predict future months

  10. NOT… that you said anything confusing it’s what they’re putting out that sounds confusing…. Getting back to the USA for to your country how would that make sense if they’re on lock down and then how is it gonna fly as far as confinement…
It just goes to my thoughts of holes in the system for the idea that it’s not truly as bad is they say especially with the current conversations about middle of April….
If we kept track how many people got the common cold for the current yearly flu people would be so shocked as far as what deaths occurred from those…. Wait wait there are numbers but the media is just not publicizing it for people to really know and how to compare this.
God-bless all and everyone stay safe

  11. as many in.usa mortality and no banned. people from usa makes sense but ban Europe. korea why

  12. I HAVE A visa that expires april 24. which i could extend another 30 days if need be. my current fllght leaves cebu on april 23. i wonder if the phillipines govt is giving some sort of grace to blokes like me that cant go to the cebu city immigration due to city lockdown. and just allow me to overstay out of grace until i can get a flight out to usa.i ve heard of other countries like indonesia just allowing people to stay regardless of visa expiration until this situation becomes more settled

  13. If you have a 13a Visa no problem flying in anytime. They have flights coming out or New York as we speak to the Philippines..Just have your Documents…they also have sweeper flights and once you get to Manila you can catch one to Davao. I am married and had to go to America for a medical issue. As long as your a permanent resident your ok. If the quarantine is not lifted then you hang out in Manila for another month. No big deal but I am disabled so I qualify for a sweeper flight to Davao. People have to get this information directly from the BI and other government offices. I spoke directly to a guy I have always known and he said they will release Domestic flights on the 13th and International on the 15th. It depends on the people and if they follow proper sanitation rules and social distancing.. they will try it for a couple of weeks. If it’s abused then they will implement accordingly. So my advice as the BI Chief told me is to book your flight within 3 days of the 15th. Philippine Airlines does not have any available flights until the 15th of April on the west coast so get one within that week. This is for Filipinos, spouses holding a 13a and or Children. He told me they need to give it a try so the farmers and people supporting their lifestyle can survive. If it’s severely abused then they will implement another thirty days.

  14. Everything is getting shutdown here in Nevada and its getting worse, everyone is basically unemployed. 10 days and can’t get through to the Unemployment office to even file a claim. Start calling at 8am and by 10am all phone Queue’s are full for the day. How is anyone even getting through i have no idea, and I even use redial from google voice. More people will die from being locked down than anything, especially overseas.

    1. wow. and the $1500 stimulus that just got approved is only a short-term band-aid.

  15. Corona hoax. Wake up. Watch the fullerton informer on utube
And while u sheeple obeying ur commie govt in ur balay
Watch Europa: the last battle. On bitchute

  16. Don’t expect any positive changes – relaxed restrictions – in April, other than in countries run by idiots. One should understand that those who contract the virus, yet, do not suffer significantly from it, are carriers.

Best of luck to you all! A very good time for that romantic escape to a place of solitude with your significant other.

    1. @Reekay’s LifeBeyondTheSea yes at this point of the game we are stuck here im worried because my girl went out to get her quarantine travel pass and they start asking how long ive been here which is over a year then last night the police and these spay people come to the block to spray and only my house gets spayed read history and there is always a scapegoat getting blamed for any outbreak i just hope I’m not that scapegoat when it breaks out in the community it normally doesn’t go good for them

    2. there are pros and cons to being anywhere right now. i, personally, plan to remain in the PH. especially since flying right now could put my elderly mother at-risk upon my arrival.

  17. Dang it :(. I have a flight arriving to Davao on May 22nd. Wondering if i should just cancel and postponed now or wait a little more.

    1. are you already in manila or cebu? if so, it is ‘possible’ the flight will happen after april 14th. but if you are outside of cebu or manila, getting there or getting into the PH will be a hurdle to deal with.

  18. It’s good you prepare for 6 to 12 months, better to be more prepared then less prepared. I doubt very much it will be 12 months or even 6 months, more like 1.5 to 2 months and things will begin getting back to normal, easily with in 3 months you’ll be good to go.

  19. How long do you think this will last on restrictions on going over there to the Philippines I’m just asking for an opinion

    1. @Reekay’s LifeBeyondTheSea thank you for getting back to me as fast as you did I wasn’t planning on coming over hopefully at the earliest October be able to answer your questions

    2. my guess… i doubt the ph will open up it’s borders to expats not until at least september, maybe longer. but not any sooner, imo.

  20. Make sure you have some cash. ATMs in Thailand have not been working also on line transfers. This is because everybody running to take money out. May happen in PI. Run on bank they freeze money.

    1. here in cebu, lots of atm’s working. but i pulled some local cash anyway. just in case.

  21. @Reekay Velez
You are probably exempt from most, if not all, of the quarantine, lock down, and travel restrictions.
    Email for details NyCalKid
    at the G place.

  22. Hello Reekay. I send money every month to my wife’s family in Cebu. I am using XOOM. I am worried the places for peso pickup will close down. Any advice from you or anyone who tunes in to your broadcasts will be appreciated.

    1. i’ve mostly been hearing from expats having trouble with Remitly. Xoom is working so far. although they no longer are using BDO as a pickup location.

  23. I don’t have to tell U things R bad, everybody knows that things R bad. It’s a Depression. Everybody’s out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel’s worth, Banks R going bust, shop keeper’s keep a gun under the counter. Punks R running wild in the streets and there’s nobody any where’s seem to know what to do and there’s no end to it. We know the Air is unfit to breath and our food is unfit to eat. We sit watching our T.V’s while some local news caster tells us that Today 150 corona deaths and 630 newly infected as if that’s the way it’s suppose to Be. We Know things R bad, worst than bad, There Crazy! It’s like everything everywhere is going crazy so we don;t go out anymore, we sit in the house and slowly the world we’re living in is getting smaller and all we say is PLEASE at least leave us alone in our living rooms, Let me have my smart phone and my smart t.v. and my toilet tissue and I won’t say anything just leave us alone. Well I’m not gonna leave U alone! I WANT U TO GET MAD…….ALL i know is that First, YOU’VE GOT 2 Get MAD . You’ve gotta say “I’m a Human Being, GODDAMMIT!!! My Life has VALUE!

  24. Going back to the US would not be the wisest idea right now imo.

The US is going to be the biggest disaster zone in all of this. With maybe India to follow if it really takes a hold there.

  25. I flashed back to the movie “On the beach” for some reason when the headlines of the flights stopping came up.

    1. That was an old movie but pretty good, of course didn’t care for the ending.

  26. Philippines doesn’t seem to have any plan as to how to feed it’s people during this. I haven’t heard anything about payments to individuals or plans on how to get food distributed. Anyone know anything about this?

    1. Reekay’s LifeBeyondTheSea I heard today that here in Cebu they’re supposed to be giving each family a 25kg bag of rice. Hoping that the government steps up during this and helps the people. Thanks for everything you do Reekay! A lot of great information on this channel during these crazy timed.

    2. some expats have told me about food-boxes being distributed to the provinces. but it’s not uniformly across the nation. it’s motly local churches and organizations in the ph already. nobody is flying in to do any kind of relief aid that i know of.

  27. please subcribes to our new channel., @ DOUG&MAE’S FILIPINA-AMERICAN ADVENTURES ., 😉 THANKS

  28. We were far overdue for a global pandemic like this given how interconnected our world is now. I think this will be 6 months to 1 year or more, prepare accordingly and if you intend to fly back home you better do it now, or you will be forced to stay in your current location IMHO. Be safe.
