This post is for U.S. citizen's in a relationship with a foreign significant other. In particular, when they take the relationship further, get engaged, married and possibly move as a couple to the United States. Deciding on where to get married and what type of visa to file for can be complicated.

Many people ask "What is the best Visa decision." What should we do, a K-1 Fiance(e) Visa or a CR-1 Spousal Visa? Which is better?

Well, there is no right or wrong answer in your U.S. Visa decision.

There are advantages and disadvantages to each type of U.S. relationship visa.

Each couple should review the advantages and disadvantages for each. Afterwards, they decide for themselves based on their situation and what it most important to them before making their U.S. relationship visa decision.

Both types of visas have their advantages and disadvantages for the following important factors:

  1. Time frame to complete Visa and enter the U.S.
  2. Government Fees
  3. Wedding and family issues
  4. Bringing children of the beneficiary to the U.S.
  5. Ability to work in the U.S.
  6. Travel plans outside the U.S.
  7. Health Insurance
