After 49 years living in Southern California, USA, I decided to move to the Philippines despite never having been here before. I spent a year getting all the information I could online and in July, 2012, I took a leap of faith and transplanted myself first to Mactan and then began my trek through Cebu, Bohol, Panglao, Moalboal, Dumaguete, Bacong and now living in Cebu City, here in the amazing Philippines.

Starting in January of 2019, I will begin a slow trek through Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and possibly Malaysia, China and Japan. My itinerary is open with no big rush since I hope to share in detail what each place is like as I enjoy it for months at a time.

I am a single man taking an honest look at all that Southeast Asia has to offer, one day at a time. I hope you find my channel informative and/or entertaining. 🙂

I hope you will make use of the links I provide as they help to support some of the costs of making this channel possible. Thanks!

  1. Young 59 year old guy not into the bar scene, I guess im more your style. I did go to the Philippines after watching your videos on YouTube and your Sage advice came in handy many times and I just wanted to thank you for that.

  2. My desire would be to have my own place establish a taco and beer business more like a food truck or similar. Love Asian people would like to meet another Filipina but my priority is to live in the Philippines and have a business before committing to a relationship. I really do like to hear the mini ideas that you put out there and I think yours is realistic and easy to take in keep up the good work I’ll continue to follow you. By the way I’m not text Savvy at all but I get around if I have to.

  3. Hi Reekay, are you still in Cebu? I arrive Wednesday (7th March) for a couple weeks and would love to meet and chat about the Philippines, life, travel, your experiences in general. I’m a 40 yr old guy working remotely as a web developer – happy to return the favour if my skills suit? Thanks, Simon.

  4. I moved here in February and live in Naga City. Bicol. I am alone here and find it hard to meet people. The people here are stand offish and the women are uninterested. No, there is nothing wrong with me, I am a regular white guy aged 60… look 50.plus maybe. Physically fit guy.5.9..grey white/hair..clean shaven.
So …what am I doing wrong? What should I do? I m getting a bit bored and walking around in the heat is a bit oppressive, tbh.

    1. well, for one thing.. not much going on in Naga. you may want to go to a place like bohol, dumaguete, bacolod, iloilo where there’s more going on.

also, filipinas will not approach you and break the ice. not the good ones anyway. (usually the hookers and ladyboys are the ones to break the ice and approach you.) so you have to single out a filipina, observe her a bit and then go strike up some conversation with her. often, just saying, “Hi.” is enough. 🙂
